Shoot Day Format

8.30am:
We meet at the Inn at Whitewell for an 8.45am sit-down for breakfast. Full English, veggie breakfast, or salmon and scrambled eggs are generally available.
9.30am:
We head to the first drive. We have a combination of pheasant, partridge, and duck drives available. The choice of the particular drive will be at the discretion of the Shoot Captain on the day, but we will try to accommodate requests wherever possible.
11am:
We head to our second drive of the day, followed by elevenses served from our shoot vehicle. We can cater for specific dietary requirements but generally there will be an ample supply of sandwiches, sausage rolls, soup, and locally sourced produce. Those who wish to partake of a drink are welcome to but we would remind all of our guns of their legal obligations both when in charge of their gun but also when driving home. Non-alcoholic drinks are also available.
1pm:
We arrive at our third drive of the day.
2.45pm:
We arrive at our fourth drive of the day.
We may, on some days, look to squeeze in a fifth drive.
4pm:
We return to the Inn at Whitewell for drinks followed by a sit-down meal.
6pm:
The day ends although those that wish to stay at the Inn may do so at their own cost!

Useful Information

Novice Shooters: We are able to accommodate novice shooters provided that they have some clay pigeon shooting experience. Novice shooters will be required, though, to be supervised by an experienced instructor on the day at an additional cost. The instructor will also be able to provide a gun and ammunition at an additional cost as required.

Instructors and Loaders: Both are available upon request and at least seven days' notice although there will be an additional charge. In the event that a gun brings an instructor with them, it is the gun's responsibility to ensure that they have the required personal insurance cover in place. Food and refreshments can be provided for visiting instructors and loaders at an additional cost.

Shotgun Certificate: You must have in your possession on all shoot days a valid UK Shotgun Certificate or UK Visitors Permit with serial numbers of your shotguns correctly annotated on the certificate.

Non Shooting Guests: We welcome non-shooting guests provided that we have advanced notice of their arrival. Again, food and refreshments can be provided at an additional cost.

Dress Code: We would respectfully request that all guns wear suitable attire for shooting including sensible footwear. We do have quite a few muddy drives so you should choose appropriately.

Cartridges: We would prefer guns to use lead-free cartridges where possible to ensure that our game dealer can process the birds shot most effectively. Steel or Bismuth are the preference.

Courtesy Vehicle: A number of regular guns at the shoot are able to accommodate visitors in their vehicles but we do have a Land Rover Defender available to drive visiting guns as appropriate with a commensurate donation to the bar! The drives are spread out across the Duchy estate and so are driven up.

Overages: We reserve the right to charge overages on Let days but this will be by exception rather than the rule.

Insurance: We have a minimum indemnity cover of £10m third party public and personal liability insurance. However, individual guns should also take out their own cover. We would recommend doing so through membership of the BASC.

Payment of shoot fees: We take three instalments on all bookings:

30% within 7 days of confirmed booking
30% on 1st May
40% on 1st August

VAT will be included on all invoice and a VAT invoice will be issued. We require payment by electronic transfer- cheques are not accepted
